Possible probe into deaths at Memorial Hospital New Orleans
Topics: Euthanasia advocacyThere is to be an investigation into the deaths of the 45 patients at Memorial Hospital in New Orleans. It is more than likely that 11 patients died of natural causes prior to Katrina hitting, but that is more than likely not the case for at least 30 other patients.
This story has come from a separate source than the first time that I heard about the probability that patients were euthanaised by the hospital staff. One must seriously question why the hospital was not fully evacuated before Katrina hit, thus leaving the staff open to having to make such bad decisions.
A full investigation into the deaths of the patients is definitely necessary. What is also necessary is that someone accepts responsibility for the untimely deaths of these patients and the failure to evacuate the patients and staff in the days before the hurricane hit. These patients could have been transported out on the Amtrak train. Their families could have been transported to a safer area as well. Instead the hospital faced the situation of rising flood waters, running out of food, poor sanitation, and looters.
