Nigeria - an act of terror?
Topics: Islam And The War On TerrorIt looks like just another aircraft crash. However, what is unusual is that amongst the 117 passengers and crew who died were government officials and officers involved in counter-terrorism activity.
Douglas Farah reports that there is now doubt that this was just an everyday crash caused by an unmaintained aircraft, and that there is growing concern that it was an act of sabotage.
He reports that it has been claimed that there was an explosion in the air before the aircraft disappeared. Already, an little known Marxist group, the "Niger Delta" have claimed responsibility.
Is this another one that is going to be connected to Al Qaeda? It seems that there is a sudden increase in the number of these little known groups coming forward, and it sounds like Al Qaeda is attempting to throw off suspicion through the creation of these new fronts. In this case we will just have to play the waiting game and see what really happened and who is responsible.
