Garang Probe Gets Three Month Extension
Topics: Sudan
The National Probe Committee investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Sudan's First VP John Garang was given a three month extension to complete its work. Garang died in a Ugandan presidential helicopter crash on July 30 and the international committee had a mandate to complete its investigation by September 16.
The African media reports that there was "no indication of foul play" although many, including me, remain suspicious. Already the probe appears to off to rocky start. Three weeks beyond their scheduled date of completion they are officially granted an extension?
Remember that the current Islamic government of Sudan is the same government that for years hosted Osama bin Laden's terror training camps. In fact, some may still be in operation. This is also the same government that bombed civilians, destroyed churches and committed numerous human rights violations during its quest to seize control of southern Sudan. And, it is the same government that continues its policies of genocide in Darfur.
