Topics: Political News and commentaries

It hasn't been an easy week for the Bush Administration and this doesn't help. Vice presidential adviser Lewis "Scooter" Libby Jr. resigned today after being charged with obstruction of justice, making a false statement and perjury in the CIA leak investigation.

The indictment can be found here. Update: Libby has been indicted on five counts for obstruction of justice, making false statements and perjury. Libby could receive a maximum of 30 years in jail and a $1.25 million fine, if convicted.

"Scooter Libby is one of the most capable and talented individuals I have ever known. He has given many years of his life to public service and has served our nation tirelessly and with great distinction," said the Vice President in a statement.

Karl Rove, Bush's closest adviser, escaped indictment Friday but remained under investigation, his legal status a looming political problem for the White House.
