Abortion Drug Lawsuit

Topics: Abortion

RU-486, the notorious "abortion pill", made the news earlier this year after revelations that four women died after using it. The family of one women has now sued New York-based Danco Laboratories, alleging the company did not sufficiently warn women of potential risks.

Hoa Thuy Tran, 21, a student from Fountain Valley, died in 2003 after taking RU-486 and a follow-up drug to end a pregnancy. She is one of four U.S. women - all from California - who are reported to have died of infection after taking the pill. [Mercury News (subscription)]
The manufacturer has the deep pocket but what about the organization that dispensed the product to Ms. Tran without adequate warning?
"She was not given any warnings of any risk of death, of any risk of infection," the attorney representing Tran's family said.
The lawsuit states that it was the Planned Parenthood (Costa Mesa) who gave Tran the abortion drug which later led to her death.
In addition to Danco, Tran's family sued Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino counties and the Population Council, a nonprofit research organization that conducted clinical trials on RU-486.
Meanwhile, Italy Resumes RU 486 Abortion Drug Trials.
