More Muslim-Inspired Violence: Thailand Deathtoll Exceeds 1,000
Topics: Understanding IslamWith all the attention on Muslim inspired terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan, the bloodshed in Thailand has essentially been ignored. This is still the case even as the death toll now exceeds 1,000.
Muslim leaders and villagers say the unrest is fueled by brutality by Thailand's security forces, the disappearance of anti-government figures, lack of respect for Islam and the arrogance of civil servants toward the local Muslim population.Looks like just another day in the Muslim world under an Islamic mindset cut from a cookie-cutter from the Arab mindset."If the government continues to commit acts of violence, there's danger the Muslim brotherhood will come in," said Worawit Baru, a Muslim professor.
... the phenomenon of terrorism, ... they are rooted in the dominant culture [of the Arab world]: "murder, slaughter and human rights violations are constant headlines. Worse, they are committed by organizations that claim the mantle Islam and Jihad, and are not met with the proper level of condemnation and rejection from religious authorities."
