(...) The federal indictment alleged that Hamid Hayat, 22, provided material support and resources for carrying out international acts of terror between March 2003 and June 4, when he was arrested days after returning to the United States from Pakistan. The charge carries a maximum 15-year prison term.

(...) Hayat "intended, upon receipt of orders from other individuals, to wage jihad (holy war) in the United States," the indictment alleged. No attacks were carried out.

(...) Hayat previously was charged with lying to FBI agents when he initially denied, and then reportedly admitted attending an al-Qaida training camp in Pakistan in 2003 and 2004.

(...) His father, Umer Hayat, 47, is charged with lying when he denied his son had attended such a camp.

(...) Thursday's indictment repeats that allegation but does not add more serious charges against the older man in the investigation of alleged terror activity in Lodi, an agricultural town of 62,000 about 35 miles south of Sacramento.

In a court filing late Wednesday opposing bail, prosecutors say the FBI found a book in Hamid Hayat's room entitled "Virtues of Jihad" by Mohammad Masood Azhar, who they say is "founder and leader of the known Pakistani extremist group Jaish-i-Muhammed." The book "invites every Muslim to join jihad," prosecutors said.

(...) Meanwhile, the second of two Islamic leaders from Lodi was deported to Pakistan, his attorney said Thursday.

(...) Shabbir Ahmed was deported Wednesday night after dropping his opposition to an immigration complaint last month, said his attorney, Saad Ahmad. An immigration spokeswoman said she couldn't comment.

(...) Muhammad Adil Khan, another Lodi religious leader, was deported last month after he stopped contesting a similar complaint that he overstayed his religious visa.

(...) Neither was charged with a crime, despite the government's allegations that they intended to set up a terror training camp in Lodi.

Back on June 11 we wrote: "Are warnings about the Islamic threat just extreme, hostile, and unnecessary provocation against innocent Muslims? Unquestionably, there are (perhaps) many moderate Muslims in America, and many make important contributions to our society. Yet, they seem to have no voice, and are themselves fearful of the Islamists that threaten our country and control most of the Muslim organizations and mosques."

But in that same post, we offered an excerpt from the writings of Daniel Pipes who says that the Muslim population in this country is not like any other group, because it includes within it a substantial body of people, many times more numerous than the agents of Osama bin Ladin, who share with the suicide hijackers a hatred of the United States and the desire, ultimately, to transform it into a nation living under the strictures of militant Islam. Although not responsible for the atrocities of 9/11, they harbor designs for this country that warrant urgent and serious attention.

And we had better do just that, and give the matter of the Islamic agenda our full and undivided attention!
