Islamic Schools Under Scrutiny For Sexual Abuse
Topics: Understanding IslamWidespread, systemic sexual abuse of children, is finally beginning to be exposed to the light of day in Islamic schools, and it isn't simple sex abuse, if there is such a thing. The issue in the Islamic schools is more serious, and includes beatings, forced sex and imprisonment with shackles and leg irons (and more - see below - "related"). Apparently, the abuse accusations come from hundreds of children that have been sent to study at Islamic schools (madrassas) are prompting growing calls from parents and rights groups for a full-scale investigation.
Irfan Khawaja, writing for the Web site of the Institute for the Secularization of Islamic Society, wonders why Western journalists have taken so little interest in a story, and believes that it is the culture common to Islamic nations that is morally dysfunctional.
