EU backs off for now from referring Iran to Security Council
Topics: International NewsIt appears that U.S. attempts to stop Iran going nuclear are going nowhere, and Russia is the lead dog in the defeat!
Bowing to Russian and Chinese pressure, the EU backed off on seeking to have Iran immediately called before the UN Security Council for its nuclear work, but Russia still objected to the compromise. As Julia Roberts said in "Pretty Woman," BIG mistake. BIG!!Despite international pressure over its nuclear program, Iran flaunted its ballistic missiles yesterday and warned any nation considering attacking the Islamic Republic would face a "destructive and fiery" response.
(...) Ahmadinejad said: "Our enemies have understood that we are very serious in defending our security." The term "enemies" is used as a reference to the United States and Israel.
(...) "Our nation wants peace, stability, justice and equality in international relations. We have always sought friendly relations with other countries," he insisted. But he warned "if some want to again test what they have tested before, the flame of the Iranian nation will be very destructive and fiery. Relying on our nation and armed forces, we will make the aggressor regret its actions," Ahmadinejad warned.
But in a sensible note, Iran expert Kenneth Pollack, director of research at the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at Washington's Brookings Institution, says "It's Time to Get Serious with Iran."
