Briton Used Internet As His Bully Pulpit

Topics: Understanding Islam

Babar Ahmad is a 31-year-old computer whiz and mechanical engineer, who was arrested in the UK one year ago on charges that he ran a network of Web sites that served as a propaganda and fundraising front for Islamic extremists, including Chechen rebels, the Taliban militia and al Qaeda affiliates. Ahmad is only one of many Islamofascists spreading hate and violence on the Internet, and although in prison, he's still doing it with the help of his family who, along with the usual mix of UK looney lefties, portray him as an innocent victim.

According to a U.S. spokesman, the material inciting murder in both the countries and elsewhere was established, operated and maintained by Ahmad. Muslims were told that "military training is an Islamic obligation, not an option" and it was suggested that they should get hold of weapons such as AK47s. One of the websites, named after the spiritual teacher of Osama bin Laden, announced that it had been set up to propagate the cause of jihad among Muslims who are sitting down ignorant. The website said that the best way to help would be to "go to the lands of jihad" to fight. Potential militants were told that they should read US military manuals and the memoirs of British soldiers, take martial arts training and learn knife fighting. Recruits were urged to be discreet and advised to make contact with veteran fighters who had come home. Website readers were also told: "The most important thing a Muslim can do in the West is raise money." The website included a disclaimer suggesting that there was no suggestion of promoting illegal action. Only an Islamofascist could make such a statement of absolute nonsense, and probably believe it. I not be a terrorism lawyer, but it sounds like it makes the basic cut of being called terrorism to me!

Since then, Ahmad has been locked up inside British prisons as he fights extradition to the United States. But the imprisonment has done little to silence the British native of Pakistani descent.

(...) Instead, it has given him an even bigger megaphone as he continues to churn out anti-American manifestos and post them on the Web, turning him into a minor celebrity in Britain.
This Islamofascist and his terrorist-supporting family continue to spread dribble. My question is why aren't all of them in prison! Be sure and watch the video on how terrorists spread their message and recruit fellow haters of the West, democracy, and tollerance.

(...) His case shows how a well-educated engineer operating in London could allegedly use the Web to project a message of Islamic extremism to a global audience.

(...) Portraying himself as an innocent victim, Ahmad has generated sympathy by arguing that extradition to the United States would violate his rights as a British citizen. Playing to widespread misgivings over the Bush administration's tactics in its self-proclaimed "war on terrorism," he has predicted that he will wind up at Guantanamo Bay or on death row if he is handed over to the Americans, even though the U.S. government has pledged otherwise.

(...) In his bid to avoid prosecution, Ahmad has relied on the technical and communications skills that U.S. prosecutors said he honed for a decade as a pioneering webmaster for Islamic extremist causes. He has also cultivated the support of others who see the Internet as a potential equalizer in what they describe as a battle between Muslims and the West.

I can't help but wonder why this guy's site hasn't been shut down already, and the key to his cell thrown away!
