Australian Troops Bound For Afghanistan May Face Home-Grown Jihadists
Topics:Australian troops due in Afghanistan within weeks may be confronted by home-grown jihadists after a masked man with an Australian accent appeared on Arab television to threaten terrorist attacks against the West. An Australian SAS contingent and its support team is expected in Afghanistan next month to conduct combat patrols in remote regions.
Speech experts said the man was either born in or spent his formative years in Australia and was probably aged under 30. They believe he may be a second-generation Australian from a non-English-speaking background.
The man attacked Western involvement in Iraq. "It is time for us to be equals," he said. "As you kill us, you'll be killed. As you bomb us, you will be bombed."
