Mexican Bishops Urge Anti-Euthanasia Law
Topics: Life IssuesCUAUTITLAN IZCALLI, Mexico, JULY 11, 2005 (Zenit) - There is no such thing as a right to death, say Mexico's bishops responding to some lawmakers, doctors and academics who want a national debate on euthanasia.
At a meeting Thursday, the bishops' conference urged a law that would protect life "from the moment of conception until natural death," according to Reuters.
"Today we have numerous methods of strengthening human capacities and reducing physical pain," said Bishop Francisco Chavolla of Toluca near Mexico City. "We cannot intervene for anybody's death, even in extremely painful situations."
"The right to death does not exist," he told a news conference.
