Blog Readings (Updated)
Topics: Blogger Round-upToday's a lazy day for writing, so while I catch up with some reading at the local Barnes and Nobles (I'm not much of a Borders fan), here's some blog readings that should catch your interest:
Captain's Quarters writes that Iranian voters interested in serious reform have found themselves locked out of the presidential election, a suspicious result given the fervor for change among the electorate. But the Middle East voting hasn't been a total loss to Islamic insanity, given Iran's mullahs interference in Iran's elections, as noted by CQ in posting that "Despite the efforts of Syria and its ally Hezbollah in the south, the reformers in Lebanon have delivered a historic victory in parliamentary elections this weekend."
Democracy Project has a great post that ends by noting: "Dick Durban and his crew are not simply unpatriotic; they aren't merely engaged in a hideous effort to gain politically from bloodshed and violence. They're moral idiots, incapable of distinguishing good from evil, and willing to verbally assault our armed forces, even as they praise actions that, if implemented here, would destroy our freedoms."
Robert Spencer has the story on the "Anti-Jewish propaganda film shown in Dutch mosques."
Michelle Malkin points to Tom Maguire of JustOneMinute who wants to know why the New York Times hasn't reported on the anti-Israel, anti-semitic comments made at a recent Democratic event hosted by John Conyers. Also at JustOneMinute, we have more on "Turbin" Durbin. Tom writes "If this Sunday Durbin-fest is any indication, Mark Steyn and the right blogosphere are looking hungry like the wolf. Censuring Durbin? Who knows?" Read on ..
And my "must read" for today is Dr Sanity's Sunday post on the lunacy of the liberal left. Do read, " Undermining the Will to Win" and the links within the post for a darn good perspective on the left's need for reality therapy.
Update: Forgot earlier to mention Michelle Malkin's lengthy post on "GITMO IGNORAMUSES STRIKE AGAIN," but she does a good job of pinning the tail on the talking donkeys (including the defacto donkey, John "say anything to get attention" McCain). She notes that "One of the most common complaints about Guantanamo Bay is that the detainees have been denied trials, however, critics are apparently unaware that every detainee currently being held at Guantanamo Bay has received a hearing before a military tribunal. As a result of those hearings, more than three dozen Gitmo detainees will be released." Why these morons are so concerned about the rights of terrorists at the risk of American lives, just baffles me.
However, Patrick Sweeney at Extreme Catholic has the right perspective:
They are being detained indefinitely because they waged war against the armed services of the United States. When this war is over, they will be released. They are the enemy.
The talking heads are talking about their "guilt" or "innocence". It's irrelevant.
If released, there is nothing stopping them from getting back to the battlefields -- either in Iraq or any other location where they can operate.
This is a throw-back to the pre-9/11 view of terrorism as a criminal problem as opposed to a miltary/political problem.
And we all know where that took us!
