Aljazeera: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Involved In Planning US Embassy Takeover And Lobbied For Takeover Of Soviet EmbassyTopics: Iran
Did Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have a hand in the American hostage taking?
I would think that Aljazeera would have as good a handle on the background of Iran's new president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, as can be found.
Aljazeera - Sunday 19 June 2005
(...) The man who said: "We did not have a revolution in order to have democracy," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has turned out to be a dark horse in Iran's presidential race.
(...) He is a former Islamic Revolutionary Guard commander, unabashedly conservative and loyal to Iran's Supreme leader Ayat Allah Ali Khamenei.
(...) As a young student, Ahmadinejad joined an ultraconservative faction of the Office for Strengthening Unity, the radical student group spawned by the 1979 Islamic Revolution and staged the capture of the US Embassy.
(...) According to reports, Ahmadinejad attended planning meetings for the US Embassy takeover and at these meetings lobbied for a simultaneous takeover of the Soviet Embassy.
Set - Game - Match. According to Aljazeera, he was involved. You'd think that they would know, right? Their article appears to be proud of his participation in the criminal act of taking over the embassy of a foreign nation that was a guest in his country, an act that could have only occured with the approval of the Iranian muhlas.
