British Consulate Targetted In New York" Terror Attack (?)"
Topics: National NewsWhile Britons were voting in a their national election, a small explosive device detonated outside the East Side building housing the British Consulate on Third Avenue and streets have been closed while authorities investigate the incident. The explosion occurred around 3:45am and blew out the front window of the building. The key descriptive here is "a small explosive device," and I find the idea of strong terrorism links(as in al-Qaeda) to be weak, at least based on what is known at this time.
This post will be updated throughout the day, should anything spectacular or interesting develop.
Rusty Shackleford at The Jawa Report has much more on the story.
Other coverage(via Jawa Report):
From The Scotsman - No Motive for New York Explosions, and I think everyone will agree with this.
Dr. James Joyner seems to think the amateurish nature of the grenades points away from professionals. Jawa Report concurs.
John Little posts this link to the British Consulate, New York. No official word yet.
