Pope election 'will take three days'

The election of a new pope should take just three days, Cardinal Jose Policarpo the Patriarch of Lisbon predicted as he arrived in Rome today for John Paul II's funeral and to take part in the conclave that will choose his successor. According to Cardinal Policarpo, "The church is a well-oiled mechanism. It seems uncomplicated to me; the election should be concluded within the first three days."

The Portuguese press have speculated that Cardinal Policarpo may himself be elected at the conclave.
