Life-saving surgery has to wait, patient told

Topics: Health Issues

Anyone for national health care? Here's what awaits the "Hilliary-care" and "Canadian health care in America" beneficiaries:

- ABCNews (Australia)

A Sydney patient with cancer of the appendix says she needs life saving surgery now, but a surgeon is not able to perform the operation until June.

Pam Grady, 55, says she has been told that, without undergoing complex surgery, she has six months to live.

She says St George's hospital in Sydney's south originally told her she might have to wait three months for the operation, which takes up to 22 hours to perform and costs an estimated $150,000.

They have now listed the surgery for June 21, but Ms Grady says she is worried that she may not be able to wait that long.

Yep, my bias is now in the open; I am not a proponent of socialized medicine. But that doesn't mean that I don't believe that the present system needs some serious reforms - because it does!
