Vietnam confirms new bird flu caseTopics: Health Issues
In my numerous previous posts on the topic of avian influenza, I have warned that the Avian influenza is continuing to increase in frequency of outbreaks. I have also written that WHO is concerned that it can become a global epidemic (pandemic), and that you should be aware that avian influenza(bird flu) kills people, lots of people. I also provided comments from the CDC that warned:
"If these H5N1 viruses gain the ability for efficient and sustained transmission between humans, there is little preexisting natural immunity to H5N1 in the human population, and an influenza pandemic could result, with high rates of illness and death."
Today I again bring up this topic yet again, because it is again in the news. - end commentary
A 35-year-old woman who works as a garbage collector in Hanoi is the fourth person to be confirmed with bird flu in the past week, Vietnamese health officials said Tuesday.
The three earlier cases in the last week -- including one death -- were all from Vietnam's northern Thai Binh province. In the most recent case, the woman was the first person to be infected in Hanoi since September, health officials said.
