UK Cardinal: Abortion echoes Nazi science
Topics: Euthanasia advocacyThe abortion issue is not just an American problem; the pre-election discussion in the UK has already begun and it is likely to be highly debated as the election campaign moves forward. Notice echo's of the fight to save Terri Schiavo!
- the Scotsman
THE pre-election debate on abortion intensified yesterday, when the head of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales used his Easter Sunday message to compare the existence of terminations in modern-day Britain to the eugenics practised in Nazi Germany.
Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor made the comments in a newspaper article as he reiterated his claims that it was "perfectly legitimate" that church leaders should continue to raise concerns and contribute to the debate on abortion, despite the fact that its legality can only be decided on by politicians.
His claims came as Scotland's most senior Roman Catholic insisted that society had "lost sight of the sacred nature of human life".
