SCHIAVO JUDGE LEGALLY BOUND TO GRANT DEATH ORDER STAY

Topics: Terri Schiavo's Life Counts

- theEmpireJournal
Florida's Sixth Judical Circuit Court judge George W. Greer, unquestionably one of the nation's most controversial judges, has said that he will conduct a hearing Wednesday, March 9 in the Pinellas County Courthouse in Clearwater on the motion for intervention filed in the Terri Schindler-Schiavo case by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF)

DCF has placed the court on notice that it is conducting an investigation into some 30 allegations of abuse, neglect and exploitation in the Schiavo case received by the agency's hotline.

The social services agency is seeking a 60-day stay on Greer's order that will allow estranged husband and guardian Michael Schiavo to remove her feeding tube on March 18.

In that the agency is statutorily mandated to investigate the allegations and has 60 days to complete its investigation, Greer is legally bound to grant the stay.

If he refuses to do so, it could be perceived that Greer is impeding an investigation, obstructing justice and, to put it rather indelicately, tampering with evidence by ordering Terri Schiavo's death.

Do we really have the right to decide whether someone lives or dies? I think not. But what I don't agree with is Micheal not allowing them to do a swallowing test. If Terri is capable of swallowing on her own. Then at that point there would be nothing artficial keeping her alive and no one, not even her husband could say that she is in a PVS. So if it really is Terri's wishes not to be kept alive artifically then this swallowing test should determine alot. If she can't swallow on her own then let her pass away. If she can swallow then we have a whole new saga that would begin.

To "let her pass away" would be comparable to locking you in your house with an empty refrigerator, turned off pipes and walking away ...to "let you pass away".

I think then you would understand that starvation is not a natural death. For Terri pass away naturally; I'd say we are looking at another 20 years for her easy.

By the mere fact that Terri does not drool is proof that Terri indeed, does swallow. She puts away about 2 liters of saliva a day. Even when she is tired or drowsy, there is no drool. So end of that debate; she swallows.

The problem with that is since she has not used her oral cavity for anything other that inhaling and exhaling for the past 14 years, she has become tactally hypersensitive; that's normal. She would need feeding therapy to help her manage the renewed DUAL functioning of her mouth and throat (oral cavity) so she could breath while swallowing and not aspirate and choke. She would also need to desensitize to temperature, textures, tastes and consistencies. This could occur quickly or take some time. Either way , its not going to happen immediately upon the removal of her tube...to believe so would be unrealistic. Experts are hopeful because they know she can swallow her saliva..thin water is the toughest to swallow because it is so hard to control as it flows....so thumbs are up. Now, how long will it take for her to eat with her mouth ? Do the courts consider the spoon feeding of pureed foods to be unnatural ?....because that's what she will likely get. No macDonald burgers for Terri for awhile....Felos will balk at the desentization, the pureed foods and at the fact that some one (other than herself) will be lifting the spoon...Mark my words.

The balking has already been done. One of the few doctors to actually examine Terri and still find her to be PVS is Dr. Ronald Cranford, self-termed "Dr. Death". He has argued that spoon-feeding is artificial and should be forbidden to a patient that previously voiced a desire to be allowed to die.
