NYT Misrepresents Schiavo Case In News Article
Topics: Terri Schiavo's Life CountsCaptain Ed at Captain's Quarters writes about the Carl Hulse and David Kirkpatrick report on the Congressional action
taken yesterday to allow Terri Schiavo's parents access to the federal
courts for a new trial.
Captain's Quarters regarding some of their inaccuracies:
Terri's life isn't being "prolonged" by her feeding tube any more than
mine was when my wife cooked my breakfast this morning. The verb prolong
gives a clear innuendo that her treatment somehow artificially extends
Terri's life, and that she would die without extraordinary treatment.
However, that simply isn't the case. Terri Schiavo is not terminally
ill, and wasn't dying until Judge Greer ordered her feeding tube
removed. She isn't even in a coma. She is profoundly disabled, no
question, but so are thousands of other Americans who require feeding
tubes to stay alive.

Comments
Incorrect.
The chess masters using TS as a pawn need to play on some serious emotions.
The fact is that the feeding tube is an artificial medical intervention that is prolonging her life - and is being done so against her wishes as stated in the 19 courts, each of which agreed the tube should be withdrawn. At present, the state is considering FORCING her to be fed against her wishes. This is on very simple legal ground: assault.

It looks like the little troll by the name of DocNos is very busy with stupid comments.
The only person who says that it is against Terri's wishes is the man who wants her dead - Michael Schiavo.
People who are not in the process of dying have the right to nutrition and hydration. Terri has indicated that she wants to live. The mere fact that she has lasted 15 years despite the most horrendous psychological abuse by that pitiful excuse of a husband is a tribute to her fortitude.
Terri was only useful alive until the compensation money was received and since then Michael Schiavo has worked to ensure that "The bitch is dead".
Terri has a right to justice and that is being denied to her by her guardian. It is the guardian laws that have to change to give wards an opportunity to contest what is happening to them by unscrupulous guardians.
