Jesse Jackson to Visit Hospice and Meet with SchindlersTopics: Terri Schiavo's Life Counts
Jessie Jackson speaking out for life - another example of how so many people of so many diverse political backgrounds have come together to save a single life. There are always more things that we share in common than we differ on, regardless of our political or religious beliefs.

As an American watching our courts in action re Teri Schiavo, I am disgusted in what I have witnessed. The courts in my opinion displayed nothing more than political maneuvering, the high courts especially, unwilling to do nothing more than provide backup to the lower courts. The real issue at stake here was absolutely and totally trampled upon. The courts' focus was on protecting everybody's rights it seems, but Teri's! There was only ONE issue here: What does Teri want? This is the only issue! In my opinion from what I have seen of the videos of her, she CLEARLY has some degree of awareness - she is not in a vegetative state. Rather than accept her husbands claim that Teri DID indicate at some point to him that she would not want to live in the state that she is in, EVERY attempt should have been made to re-assess Teri's brain function by performing functional MRI scans; additionally and along with this test, a speech therapist should have been bought in and efforts to communicate with Teri should have been started in earnest, the primary goal being to determine if she could communicate her wishes. This attempt was never made - in 15 YEARS! I am UTTERLY appalled that the courts chose to SLAM THE DOOR IN TERI'S FACE, choosing instead to play legislative politics with each other. This disabled woman was desperately trying to communicate! She wanted to say something! And you, the courts, ignored her and turned away. I am very angry, disgusted .... what has this country become?
