Italian Journalist Giuliana Sgrena Admits to Helping Terrorists, Lies About Shooting (Updated)

Topics: Middle East News and Perspectives

The 'continuing to emerge' story of Giuliana Sgrena is probably yet to be fully told, and the whole truth just might lie somewhere between her kidnapping being an absolute fraud to a real one, juxtaposed to an accidental shooting by U.S. forces being offset by the possibility of a "setup" to embarrass the Coalition. Who really knows the truth at this point?

Giuliana Sgrena, 56, a senior reporter for the Italian daily paper Il Manifesto, was kidnapped by gunmen in the centre of Baghdad on 4 February. She had just interviewed inhabitants of Fallujah who had taken refuge in a mosque on the Baghdad University campus.

For some background, take a look at the timeline of the "alledged" kidnapping of Giuliana Sgrena.

Here is some of Sgrena's interview with the BBC.  You be the judge:
However, look at what Sgrena says here in her own publication (via Chad at In the Bullpen):

Sgrena Mia Culpa.

Italian agents likely withheld information from U.S. counterparts about a cash-for-freedom deal with gunmen holding an Italian hostage for fear that Americans might block the trade, Italian news reports said yesterday.

The decision by operatives of Italy's SISMI military intelligence service to keep the CIA in the dark about the deal for the release of reporter Giuliana Sgrena, might have "short-circuited" communications with U.S. forces controlling the road from Baghdad to the city's airport, the newspaper La Stampa said.
