Businessman Offers $1 Million To Keep Terri Schiavo Alive (Updated)

Topics: Terri Schiavo's Life Counts

Update: The businessperson who, through attorney Gloria Allred, has offered Michael Schiavo a million dollars to walk away will be on Hannity & Colmes tonight, Thursday - March 10, 2005 at 9.00pm ET (GMT-5).

Although the actual headline reads "comatose woman," and since Terri Schiavo is not comatose, I've made the appropriate correction in the title of this post, nevertheless, the headline is interesting. But I doubt it will have much of an affect on Michael Schiavo since he can't spend the money in jail should Terri receive therapy and recover sufficiently to tell us how she sustained all of those broken bones. Until and unless he accepts the offer, it's a just another new whisper in the wind.

LOS ANGELES -- Attorney Gloria Allred said she would hold a news conference with one of her clients Thursday afternoon to make an announcement regarding the case of Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman whose feeding tube is scheduled to be removed on March 18.

Allred said the client is a businessman who has deposited $1 million into her law firm's trust account to offer Schiavo's husband, Michael, if he agrees to certain conditions to keep his comatose wife alive after the feeding tube is scheduled to be removed.

Meanwhile, the state of Florida is moving on two fronts to try to block the March 18 removal of the feeding tube keeping brain-damaged Terri Schiavo alive.

Reader Joanne W. writes that the business man is:
Robert Herring, Sr., from San Diego,
Michael must agree to turn the guardianship of Terri Schiavo over to her family.
The offer will be withdrawn March 14, 2005 if Michael does not accept by 5 p.m. that day.

This has not been confirmed through other sources.

Michael Schiavo turned down the one million dollar offer to get him to turn over care of Terri to her parents. His lawyer said the offer was "offensive."

It was not. It was beautiful. I continue to be amazed at the outpouring of concern for Terri from around the world. Terri's face has launched more than a hundred thousand ships in the form of blogs, letters, emails, donations, legislation, activism and legal action, by people, professionals and government officials around the world.

Despite a number of rational options, Michael's decisions continue to be clearly foolish.

“Michael has said over and over again that this case is not about money for him,” Felos said. “It’s about carrying out his wife’s wishes. There is no amount of money anyone can offer that will cause him to turn his back on his wife.”

He won't turn his back on his wife? OMG is he kidding? He turned his back on her medical needs, is living with another woman and has had children with her, and he plans to KILL his WIFE by starving her to death after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars of Terri's rehabilitation fund on attorney fees. My goodness, if it can be believed that these are the actions of a loving husband God help us because as a society we are in way more trouble than even I have considered.
