Bill Passes: Schindlers Want Terri's Feeding Tube Reinserted

Topics: Terri Schiavo's Life Counts

The bill has passed(at 00:46 ET), so let's get the tube in and start rehabilitating Terri - starting with giving her a new guardian. Congress approved emergency legislation early Monday to let Terri Schiavo's parents ask a federal judge to prolong Terri's life, capping days of emotional debate over who should decide life and death.

Before it passed:

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) -- While Terri Schiavo lay in her hospice bed Sunday, the brain-damaged woman's parents and husband made competing pleas to the public and Congress on her third day without food or water.

As protesters and TV satellite trucks gathered outside the hospice, the Senate passed a bill that could prolong Schiavo's life while a federal court considers her case. House Republicans scrambled to bring enough lawmakers back to the Capitol for an emergency vote early Monday after Democrats objected to a vote by a small handful of lawmakers.

President Bush cut short a stay at his Texas ranch and returned to the White House for a chance to sign the measure.

An attorney for Schiavo's parents filed a request for an emergency injunction with a federal appellate court to have her feeding tube reinserted once the bill is passed. He also planned to make a similar request with the federal district court in Tampa.

"We feel every moment is urgent. We are considering every second as precious in terms of saving Terri," said David Gibbs II, an attorney for Bob and Mary Schindler.

This is good news because Terri does not deserve to be treated as some form of lesser existence. She is a human being, who can breathe for herself.

Now that the legislation has passed, I want to see the tube reinstated and I want to see the order coming through that Terri is to be removed from the Woodside Hospice.

Then I would like to see George Greer, George Felos and Michael Schiavo taken into custody because of their attempt to pervert the course of justice.

No one must remain silent on these issues of life and death.

A heads-up: I've just put together a blog, Liberals for Terri, that you can send your liberal friends to. Anyone who thinks we just ought to "let her go" and "be with God" will be enlightened. You'll like it too I promise :)

I argue for Terri's life not from the strict "right to life" point of view, but from the evidence that her estranged husband might have put her in this state to begin with -- and that we are obligated to investigate that possibility RIGOROUSLY before we give him the keys to drive off into the sunset.

It's a simple matter of law and order. It's also Terri's right to be protected from any incriminating and suspicious acts by her husband, as well as the rampant medical & legal fraud that has occurred on her "behalf".

Hope you like it. Be sure to send ALL your liberal friends over there. It ought to get them asking some tough questions. We need to collapse this house of cards QUICKLY before the political circus gets out of control, and we need the help of everyone to do it.

Realize that if they were really aware of what's been going on, they'd flip on a dime. (If not then they are implicitly criticizing the Scott Petersons of the world for not suffocating their wives just to the point of brain injury, taking them to the hospital and then demanding their "right to die".)

I am so frustrated with the order of importance with our government. There are schools that have to cut teachers, soldiers are being killed, they lie about WMD and the purpose of the war, BUT THEY HAVE TIME TO SAVE THE LIFE OF A -------- VEGTIBLE. She is brain dead.

I am glad our leaders have their priorities straight. While there at it, why don't they just pass a bill against gays, abortion, cut phy ed and music out of the education program and ask for another $100,000,000,000 against the "war against" terror. Obviously that investment is paying off.
