The Hapless Misadventures of the Pinellas County Court System: An incestuous tale

Topics: Terri Schiavo's Life Counts

If this doesn't leave you scratching your head in confusion and wondering how this is happening in the year 2005 when our legal system is supose to be squeaki clean, you have no hair!

Judges are impartial, right? Not Judge George Greer, the judge that has ordered Terri Schiavo executed by starvation and dehydration, twice.

Our good ole boy judge has worked side by side as county commissioner with Barbara Sheen Todd (county commissioner) for eight years. Barbara Sheen Todd is on the board of, you guessed it,  the hospice where Terri Schiavo is kept prisoner by her husband, Michael Schiavo, who lives with another woman that he has two children with.

Also, Judge Greer's fellow judge, Judge John Lenderman is the brother of Martha Lenderman, also on the, you got it, the same hospice board.

Our fine judge accepted as the basis of his rulings, the questionable testimony of Michael Schiavo that Terri would wish to be killed, yet Michael never stated this until after he had received the 1.2 million dollar settlement during which time he portrayed himself as a loving husband that just wanted to bring his wife home and take care of her.

The judge also accepted as the basis of his rulings, the "opinion" of a third doctor who is the brother of a close associate of George Felos, Michael Schiavo's right-to-kill attorney, and very significantly, former Chairman of, you got it again, the same hospice board, Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, which operates Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park, Florida.

Still have some hair left? Let's see what we can do about that!

Mary Laybak, CEO of Woodside Hospice has direct ties to Euthanasia Society of America and Hemlock for Hospice, an organization that seeks to accelerate the dying process.  Federal funds may not be used for these purposes.

The Hospice is a federally funded program designed for terminally ill and those whose death is eminent.  Terri has been in Woodside Hospice illegally for three years under Medicaid payments, for free, courtesy of, yep, George Felos. Felos combined and conspired with Michael Schiavo to arrange for Terri's "free" stay at Hospice Woodside as part of an "exit protocol" designed to advance Felos' self-perceived messianic mission of "helping" incapacitated people to die by categorizing them as "terminal," warehousing them, and depriving them of therapy and rehabilitation services.

US Dept of Health and Human Services is currently trying to collect  $14.8 million from Florida Suncoast Hospice, owed to them since 1997. The squeaki-clean(not) Hospice is accused of patient brokering and several lawsuits filed by Attorney Jonathan Alpert are pending.

And back to our friend the judge, just what kind of testimony has he weighted to put Terri in a hell on earth without chance of parole?

Judge Greer refused to acknowledge testimony of 10 doctors and 3 nurses who have cared for Terri and who testify that:

a) Terri is not in a persistive vegetative state

b) Terri is able to be rehabilitated with care and therapy

c) Terri's original injuries are questionable and consistent with spouse abuse and attempted strangulation

d) Terri has been abused and neglected by her husband; denied treatment for infection and possible attempted murder while in nursing home care (discovery of empty insulin vial and temperature in room set at 64 degrees)

Judge Greer instead chose to believe contrary testimony by two of Michael's representatives who are:

a) A doctor who rarely sees Terri  (Dr. Gambone who has now resigned as Terri's doctor)

b) Ronald Cranford, Hannipeg County Medical Center , Minnesota who makes an avocation of testifying in cases such as Terri's throughout the country, always on the side of dehydration and starvation.

Had enough yet? Wonder what should have been done for Terri? Take a look here.

Hey! I don't know who else to tell about this (Pro Life Blogs and Blogs for Terri typekey pads are not working). But here is my message.

I posted about this on my site, but found it originally at "The Empire Journal" (http://www.theempirejournal.com/0219056_gov.htm) which is talking about how Judge Greer never fulfilled his oath (some technicallity) that may make it possible for his removal as judge (and at least buy more time for Terri). Found it via a google search. Check it out...it may help Terri out. Selah!

IF the links I've read pertaining to the
Terry Schiavo case are factual and IF the
SCHAIVO, FELOS, GREER trio succeed in their decision that Terry must die...

can a civil suit be filed against any of
them? Just wondering.

Posted by: Joanne at February 21, 2005 1:50 AM

Civil suit? How about criminal suit, as in "Premeditated Murder". Should be a no-brainer. I say "should be," one never knows with the upside-down judicial system.

Murder is wrong.

Put Terri on death row. She will get better treatment there.

GOD HAVE MERCY ON JUDGE GEORGE GREER.

Deu 5:10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
Deu 5:11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold [him] guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Deu 5:12 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.
Keep Terri Schiavo alive in Jesus name aman..

Deu 5:13 Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work:

(Gen 18:23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?)

Arrest the black-robed tyrant George Greer for contempt of Congress and conspiracy to commit murder! This oaf is so blind he can't even drive a car! He also was responsible in a similar case in allowing an exhusband to stab his wife to death! One of Judge Greer's ex-roommates was Jim Morrison of the Doors!! No B.S.

I"M SO MADD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GEORGE GREER IS A MURDErer!
to say terri has a right to die...through starvation and dehydration...
God would be the final judge when it end...

I'm glad that you can sit in judgement of everyone here and Terry. We should just kill the teenagers who attempt suicide, too.

Right?

I'm also glad to see that liberals are as open as ever to opposing points of view. You know, things don't have to get nasty and be reduced to name calling like "RIGHT WING, LET YOUR RIGHTS FLY OUT THE WINDOW, UNBELIEVABLY NARROW MINDED ANIMALS," when people such as you are so....not narrow minded.

Ok, First things first, let the gal die peacefully, dont starve her, second thing, come on, if nothing has happened in 15 years she isnt going to recover, third, Congress has no right interferring in this case as said in the "Seperation Of Powers" supeonaing Terri is ludicrious, she cant interact or communicate, if i was Greer, i'd hold Congress in Contempt, and issue and Arest Warrent For any of them who step foot in Florida.

What if it was a baby? What if a person decided to stop feeding their baby? That person would be considered a threat, insane, and imprisoned. Any court would throw the book at a parent who would do that. What gives Greer the power to kill an innocent person and do it "legally"?

Posted by: Kellie at March 19, 2005 9:53 AM

The motives and connections are essentially meaningless. Would my motive to refuse antibiotics in an ER matter? Would it matter if I didn't want to take them because I was afraid of allergies, if it were for religious regions, of if I thought swallowing the pills would turn be into an alien from Venus? NO. It is my right to refuse. If I refuse and you treat me, it is assault and battery.

Ever since the New Jersey Supreme Court allowed a respirator to be removed from Karen Ann Quinlan and the U.S. Supreme Court declared that feeding tubes are medical treatments just like respirators, heart-lung machines, dialysis and antibiotics, it has been crystal clear in U.S. law and medical ethics that those who cannot speak can have their feeding tubes stopped. The authority to make that decision has fallen to those closest to the person who cannot make their own views known. First come husbands or wives, then adult children, then parents and other relatives.

If there is no living will, the state must default to a spouse (above all others) in determining what the person would have wanted.

The decision about Terri’s life does not belong to the U.S. Congress, President Bush, Rep. Tom Delay of Texas, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, the Florida Legislature, clerics in Rome, self-proclaimed disability activists, Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry, conservative commentators, bioethicists or Terri’s parents. The decision is Michael’s and Michael’s alone.

JUDGE GREER SHOULD BE SO ASHAMED, IT IS SINFUL WHAT HE HAS DONE TO THIS POOR WOMAN. WHY DON'T THEY WANT HER TO LIVE? WHAT COULD IT HURT? SHE TRIED TO TELL THEM SHE WANTED TO LIVE. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE LIKE THAT JUDGE? MAYBE THEY ARE TO FULL OF THEMSELVES. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON (THEIR) SOULS. I AM ASHAMED OF THEM ALL.

Posted by: SHARON at March 24, 2005 2:16 PM

This case is making me mad because honestly it isn;t fair to Terry to suffer the way she is now!!! Judge George Greer needs to open his eyes and see that he is the one that is killing Terry! Terry's husband needs to stop trying to KILL his wife and wake up!!!

There exists much evidence to suggest that Michael has been an abusive husband:
1. The 1991 bone scan indicating prior physical abuse
2. His behavior as observed by the nurses who were caring for Terri (Comments such as, When will that b---- die?)
3. The no recusitation order on her chart a month after he received the huge settlement for her care.
4. His adulterous affair by which he sired children.
5. His denial of almost all rehabilitation for Terri.

These factors should have removed Michael from any role as legal guardian long ago.

For any who might question whether or not Terri can improve, many well-qualified physicians think she still can. She has never really been given the chance.

Our society is more and more becoming a death-embracing culture. The end to this mindset is not pretty. Look at what is happening in those European countries who have embraced this. Do we really want to go there?

When all the facts do come out to G.P. (General Public who are mostly ignorant of all involved in this case) I hope there will be a huge backlash against those who have perpetrated this evil thing against an innocent, powerless woman.

She deserves protection, not to have her life snuffed out.

We are living in a cynical world where many of us are struggling to survive by meeting the everyday necessarities. We fight and we live on, but when we come upon a decision make by a another human being to end another human being's life based on his poor judgement, it is regarded as pure evil according to the Bible. Regardless of whichever religion we embrace ourself to, we are taught of human compassion, forgiveness and love. There are absolutely no words of any culture, religion, or life forms to excuse anyone in taking the life of another being among us. The real pain isnt what's happening to Terri right now, but rather those unexcusable individuals who are marking this event as a job or a conclusion towards a new beginning for them. But fear not, heaven has eyes. We dont have to pray or threaten evil that lurks among us for because karma exist. We should all take a moment and ask God to give Terri a safe journey and take care of her in heaven. May God embraces another one of his child, Terri back into his loving arms and forgive all of us for not being able to safe keep another one of his daughter here on this cynical world. As for Judge George Greer and Michael, I hope you two can sleep at night knowing fate always repays himself.

Hello, I used to believe that Terri Schiavo should be allowed to die, but taking further consideration I have come to the opinion that Terri should be allowed to live.

I am a vegetarian, I oppose the view that killing animals is justified simply because they don't have the reasoning and communication capabilities that we humans have. Well I realized that this belief was in direct contradiction with my belief to allow Schaivo to die. Just because Terri does not have the capability to reason, or to communicate like we do does not mean we should allow her to die.

I understand that the main reason for letting her die is because people believe she is suffering. Yet because her brain is damaged to the point where her cerebral cortex is gone, Terri's mind is not aware of her own condition, hence most likely Terri's mind is not suffering.

So if Terri is most likely not suffering and it wrong to kill a being simply because it can't reason or communicate, then it is wrong to allow her to die.

How can anyone be so cruel and starve another human being. What kind of a society have we become when we starve a sick person to death.
People that starve their sick pets even get prosecuted and parents that abuse their children by starving them get prosecuted.
What about inmates on death row who have committed horrendous crimes will we start starving them?
Will the people that are currently starving T Shiavo be prosecuted, like her husband and the employees at the hospice where Terri is?
In China in the medicine free hospitals they have a 90% success rate of curing various cancer. One reason I am sure must be that they are not motivated by greed and that old mighty dollar that will not go with any of us to the other side.
The American Medical Association came out with a report several years ago that Doctors & Medicine may be leading cause of death in US. In all fairness they are only trained to administer drugs or cut out things, and of course the big bugs that have so many in this country only thinking that this life is all there is, not true and much has been written and discovered about that fact.
And do you believe in God or some ultimate energy that is part of all of us? And if you do, what do you think will happen ones you reach eternal life or the after life? Do you go to Church and speak the Words of the Bible. It is not about quoting the Bible it is about how we live and who we are. May God have mercy on all of us!

Sincerely Elke Keil

There is absolutely no reason to villify Terri Schiavo's husband or Judge Greer or any of the numerous judges that ruled on this case. I've heard attacks on the husband because after years of taking care of a wife in a vegetative state he found some companionship with someone new. They then both helped with Terri's care and visited her repeatedly... That's not wrong! ALL THE COURTS found in the husbands favor... That's not wrong! I agree with the many doctors and medical ethics professors... Removing a feeding tube is not what kills someone. It's the critical condition that kills when man stops intervening with artificial means of life support. After years... a truly extremely long length of time people were stopped from playing God and nature was allowed to take it's natural course. Please don't let political power and interest cloud things just to form attacks.
