Although the MSM is going to treat this as a breaking story, it is really very old news - this kind of thing has been going on since at least before Sept 04 (also an unmanned aircraft recently crashed near a nuclear site in Iran, presumably it wasn't Mexican) . And I just can't figure why the media thinks its in our interest to have this splashed all over the pages of the world's press, when you'd think that we'd want our military to have every possible advantage should we need to handle the Iranian nuclear threat before we have a nuclear weapon detonated in our back yards - the media's included. But the MSM, especially the WashPo and the NYT, are so dead-set on embarrassing the Bush administration that they don't seem to care about our nation's security or the lives of our service men and women.

The Bush administration has been flying surveillance drones over Iran to seek evidence of nuclear weapons programs and detect weaknesses in air defenses, the WASHINGTON POST is planning to splash on Sunday.

Newsroom sources tell DRUDGE: The small, pilotless planes, penetrating Iranian airspace from U.S. military facilities in Iraq, use radar, video, still photography and air filters designed to pick up traces of nuclear activity to gather information that is not accessible to satellites, the officials said.

The aerial espionage is standard in military preparations for an eventual air attack and is also employed as a tool for intimidation.

"The Iranian government, using Swiss channels in the absence of diplomatic relations with Washington, formally protested the illegal incursions, according to Iranian, European and U.S. officials."

Last April California Yankee posted Flying Saucers Invade Iran:

State television on Wednesday showed a sparkling white disc it said was filmed over Tehran on Tuesday night.

More colorful Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) have been spotted beaming out green, red, blue and purple rays over the northern cities of Tabriz and Ardebil and in the Caspian Sea province of Golestan, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Newspapers and agencies reported people rushing out into the streets in eight towns on Tuesday night to watch a bright extraterrestrial light dipping in and out of the clouds.

Today the Washington Post explains that Iran's UFOs are U.S. reconnaissance drones.
