Abbas talks with militants on hold
Topics: Middle East News and PerspectivesThe back and forth jockeying for power and political position between the PA President Mahmound Abbas and Hamas, Islamic Jihad and various ad-hoc groups continues in the almost comic tradition of North Korea's ploys of nukes-for-money while shooting themselves in the foot. The "peace in their time" farce is not over, so expect more of the same for some time to come. Meanwhile, the economically and socially disfunctional Palestinian society continues to suffer the continuation of a mindset and lifestyle that will further doom them to years of recovery, if not decades. The issue of mindset is an old story that isn't going to go away anytime soon.

A MEETING today between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and militant leaders he hoped to persuade to abide by his ceasefire with Israel has been postponed for 24 hours.
A senior aide to Mr Abbas, Tayeb Abdel-Rahim, gave no reason for delay in taks with leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Armed groups began observing a general calm last month at Mr Abbas's behest, but have rejected any formal truce.
They said they were not bound by his mutual pledge at a summit on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to halt violence.
