Abbas Dismisses Commanders After Truce Breached

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed three of his top security chiefs Thursday after militants broke a cease-fire he had agreed with Israel by bombarding Jewish settlements in Gaza with mortars.

After the attacks, Israel had put off security coordination talks scheduled as a follow-up to Tuesday's groundbreaking meeting in Egypt with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. More...

The fact that armed chaos still exists in the Palestinian street is exhibited by the scene of dozens of gunmen including Hamas militants storming into a Gaza City prison today and shooting dead three inmates in a settling of scores between feuding clans. Talk is cheap as is hope, and the mind-set of the Palestinian terrorist groups is not going to change in the near future. Only time will tell whether or not Mahmoud Abbas is strong enough to survive his challenge to a culture that has been strongly ingrained into hearts and minds of Palestinian youth and their terrorist leaders.
