Zarqawi Network Collapse Continuing?
Topics: Middle East News and PerspectivesThe Iraqi government announced the capture of two close associates of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi today including the chief of the terror mastermind's Baghdad operation,. The Iraqis say one of the men was Zarqawi's chief operational officer for Baghdad:
The announcement brings to three the number of purported al-Zarqawi lieutenants arrested this month. The announcement appeared aimed at bolstering public confidence in security forces in advance of Sunday's election.
Captain Ed at Captain's Quarters believes that the multiple capture of Zarqawi associates is "continuing the collapse" of the Zarqawi network. Although I don't share Captain Ed's optimism that the collapse of the al-Zarqawi network has begun, much less is continuing, I do agree that the multiple capture of members in the Zarqawi network can upset the timing and efficiency of the attacks. The terrorist cells tend to operate independently once an attack has been planned and unfortunately for our troops and the Iraqis there doesn't seem to be a shortage of young men who can be brainwashed into killing themselves by the clerics at Friday prayers.
