Official Voting Period for Iraq's Polls Ends
Topics: Iraq ElectionsIt's over! The United States of America, the Free Citizens of Iraq, and the future of freedom in the Middle East - won an election today through the turn-out of citizens that participated in the historic event.
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The official period for voting in Iraq (news - web sites)'s elections ended at 5 p.m. (1400 GMT) Sunday, ten hours after polls had opened.
Iraq's election commission said voter turnout had reached 72 percent of registered Iraqis three hours before the polls closed.
Commission officials have said that people waiting in line to vote when the polls closed would still probably be allowed to cast their ballots.
