BAGHDAD, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- A new batch of American soldiers, trucks loaded with supplies, armored vehicles, and carriers arrived in Mosul Saturday, said eyewitnesses in the city.

They added in a phone call to KUNA that the military batch also included ambulances and Hammer vehicles.

The US Department of Defense took a decision earlier to raise its soliders in Iraq to 150,000 before the Iraqi elections take place by end of the month. The Iraqi government will also deploy 100,000 of its security forces all over the country in preparation for the elections.

The US-chief of staff had warned, during his last visit to the country, that "terrorist attacks" may increase shortly before the elections. He underlined the importance of the Iraqi people's support for encountering such attacks.
