Modern War, Unlike Tsunami, Comes in Dribs and Drabs
Topics: Southeast Asia Earthquake and TsunamiI like the begining of this article although I've combined the first couple of it's paragraphs for embellishment. It's a report of tragedy and hope in juxtaposition, and I think that to be a good thing. After all, that is just how things really happen isn't it? From dispair mankind rebounds and learns to find hope in little things that before the event of disaster would be taken for granted - like food and water, human kindness, and even one's family and friends.
The article is written by Sarah Whalen who bills herself as an expert in Islamic law and says that she has taught law at Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana. Although the article begins with a theme of compassion and world community, it quickly deteriates to an anti-American, anti-war, anti-Iraq diatribe so typical of the left-wing academics that infest our universities. She fails to take into account the thousands of Iraqis that have been saved from death and torture at the hands of Sadaam Hussien by our action in Iraq and instead chooses to focus only upon the "hand-picked" report of deaths of her choosing.
If it were not for her compassionate start, I would not have reported on this article. But it does show that even people that we disagree with and that we think are biased against the country that has given them security and so much opportunity, some things that they say are worth listening to. The author of the article is definately pro-Islamic and seems to favor Sharia law over civilization and Western law. The fact that people like this teach in our universities is a very scary thing indeed. Remember that this is an American academic writing in an Arab media for an Arab audience. With countrymen like this supporting our enemies, it is no wonder that we have such difficulty making friends in the Arab world.
"The Earth's crust shifted last week, and then the waves came, and they came harshly and without mercy. The tragedy they delivered is natural and undeniable. A death count somewhere around 150,000(and growing)."

The waves washed over much of coastal Asia, and Americans were
so moved by the horror of tens of thousands of stiffened bodies stacked
like so much split firewood that the Bush administration had to boost
its disaster aid offers by many millions of dollars. And Americans
themselves rallied to the cause in a way not seen since the Sept. 11
atrocities, privately organizing disaster relief groups to assist
populations that are mostly Hindus, Buddhists, and...Muslims.
Is the world becoming a community again? Continue reading....
