Lives in Brief - effects of the tsunami disaster

Victims of the tsunami had names, they were people from all walks of life that had families and loved ones, and none of them expected to die on one beautiful sunny day in a tropical paradise. Here are some excerpts from a touching article in the timesonline.co.uk today.

CLARE JACKSON

Clare Jackson, 25, is still missing after being wrenched from the grasp of her boyfriend, Alex Hill, as their beach bungalow in the Sri Lankan resort of Tangara was swept away.

ROBERT WHYMANT
The former Tokyo correspondent for The Times, who died in Sri Lanka, had spent much of his life in Japan, having studied oriental languages at Cambridge.

CHARLOTTE JONES

On Boxing Day Charlotte Jones, 23, was standing on the shore of Racha Yai island, south of Phuket, Thailand, when the tsunami struck. She had reached Thailand on a round-the-world trip with an old school friend.

JAMES BOUCHARD
Gilles and Pauline Bouchard, from Gatineau, Québec, had embarked on their retirement adventure. The former teachers were on holiday near Phuket, Thailand, and planning to spend two months touring the country with their daughter, Claudia.
