British Flight Forced to Turn Back

A British Airways flight from London to New York was forced to turn back Wednesday after U.S. authorities refused to allow one of the passengers to land, saying he posed a terrorist threat, the airline said.

Flight BA175 was three hours into its journey to John F. Kennedy International Airport when it was forced to turn back to London's Heathrow Airport, where the passenger was met by police.

U.S. Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Yolanda Clark said the passenger was traveling on a French passport.

The TSA said the man was a positive match with an anti-terrorism watchlist.

What I will NEVER understand is why they don't do the manifest check prior to takeoff! What a colossal waste of money letting a fully loaded jet take off, only to have to return. But MORE importantly, once a terrorist is on board and in-flight, it could easily be too late. He could have taken control of the aircraft (a la 9/11) upon the return flight and crashed it in the UK (or where ever such a flight originates), or even just crashed it into the ocean. Or blown it up. Or whatever.

Stupid, stupid, stupid...but that's what happens when we have to go by "international" rules. I think you've given me a new crusade with this.
