American high school caves-in to Muslim terrorist front group: Tenn. School Allows Muslim Headscarves

Topics: War on Terror - the issues.

I hope that fellow bloggers, particularly those in Tenn., will pick up on this story that originated at the Wash. Times and then followed by Robert Spencer at Dhimmi Watch -  this is nothing more than allowing Islamists through a front-group to intimidate your high school, all you citizens of Tennessee. I surely never expected this from the (formerly) proud State of Tennessee.

This would be a non-issue if the scarf were just a scarf, but it is not - just a scarf. It is the proclamation of one's intention to obey Islamic law. As Robert Spencer asks at Dhimmi Watch, does Rick Smith, an assistant superintendent for Hamilton County schools in Tenn., know that Islamic law is not just personal, but sociopolitical?

"The Islamic hijab is a fake, it is nothing more than a cheap political prop, a weapon of visual terrorism. It is the symbol of a totalitarian ideology inspired more by Nazism and Communism than by Islam. It is as symbolic of Islam as the Mao uniform was of Chinese civilization."   - previous Hyscience post

Spencer writes in Dhimmi Watch that:

The "national civil rights group for Muslims," CAIR, demands that non-Muslims accept as axiomatic that Muslims in America have no intention of following through on the Sharia's political imperatives, while maintaining its personal ones -- and if we don't accept this, CAIR tars us as "hatemongers" and "bigots."

But what is the evidence of this? Where are the Sharia manuals redlined by CAIR or any other Muslim group to cross out the elements that mandate that states be governed according to Islamic law? And if Muslims in America have not really renounced these elements of Sharia, then is not Emily Smith's action a declaration with enormous political implications?   -End item

I have previously written on several occasions about CAIR but recently wrote an extensive review article on CAIR that included a large number of links evidencing CAIR's links to terrorrists and  Islamic fundamintalists. On Jan 1, 2005 it was reported that a 9/11 lawsuit was linking them to al-Qaeda.

According to Khalid Duran (who is a Muslim), in an article entitled  How CAIR Put My Life in Peril, published in the Middle East Forum:

CAIR is the principle front organization of a coalition of Islamist (or fundamentalist Muslim) groups that have taken root in America over the past two decades. Most are spin-offs of the Islamic Association of Palestine (IAP), such as the American Muslims for Jerusalem, the Holy Land Foundation, and the Islamic Institute. These are extreme groups, and some have even come under federal investigation for alleged support of Middle Eastern terrorism. But CAIR's mission has differed from the others: its special assignment is the insinuation of the Islamist agenda into mainstream American politics. Like the many front organizations established by the Soviet Union in its heyday, CAIR works to give a "white bread" image to advocates of illiberal and even radical ideas.

CAIR is run by a duo. The executive director, Nihad Awad, is a Palestinian; his associate, Ibrahim ("Dougie") Hooper, is an American convert. Awad actively propagates the cause in Arabic, while Hooper handles most of the English-language work. To create the perception that CAIR speaks for Islam in America, the two indefatigably issue position statements on anything remotely touching on Muslim or Arab affairs, reacting on everything from U.S. foreign policy to letters in college newspapers.

In the Washington Times we learn that a politically correct high school principal after consulting liberal, uninformed, appeasing, terribly misguided, and "scared of their shadow" attorneys, an American High School is now allowing an American girl (her name is Emily Smith - possibly a Muslim convert) to wear the Islamic symbol (hijab) of power over women and non-Muslims, a mere political "prop." On December 18, 2004 I wrote a post entitled, "The Islamic Jihab, Religious expression or political prop"  in which quoted a Muslim writer, Amir Taheri, who proclaims that there is no theological or historical basis for the hijab, it's only purpose is to subdue women and exert pressure on those that refuse to wear it and therein submit to fundamentalist Islamists. He continues by saying that "The Islamic hijab is a fake, it is nothing more than a cheap political prop, a weapon of visual terrorism. It is the symbol of a totalitarian ideology inspired more by Nazism and Communism than by Islam. It is as symbolic of Islam as the Mao uniform was of Chinese civilization."

From the Washington Times Jan 13

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A public high school changed its dress code to allow religious headscarves after a national civil rights group for Muslims complained to the principal on behalf of a student. A spokeswoman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations said Emily Smith, 18, a senior at Chattanooga's East Ridge High School, wore her headscarf, or hijab, on campus for the first time Thursday. Smith said that although friends and a few teachers offered congratulations, "I wanted to keep it as low-key as possible." Khadija Athman, civil rights manager for the Washington, D.C.-based council, said the group sent the school principal a letter Jan. 6, three days after the student e-mailed the council asking about her rights.    Read More....

I find the "religious" reference to be astounding. Would they be willing to let anyone wear a Christain headscarf? This is a final example of religious discrimination. I bet they do not allow anyone to celebrate Christmas either.
