Yuschenko and Dioxin - yes, no, maybe, who knows?

Topics: Medicine

I have previously posted on Viktor Yushchenko's mysterious illness and have provided what little I was familiar with in terms of research information. However, how about let's hear it from two docs, Medpundit and CodeBlueBlog! Both discussions are very interesting, with Medpundit providing us with a description of acute dioxin poisoning which she believes fit Yushchenko's symtpoms "to a tee," and CodeBlueBlog providing us reasons why he doubts that dioxin is behind Viktor Yushchenko's illness; the two accounts together give you a taste (sic) of why medicine is as much an art as it is science, and why two good docs can disagree. You'll want to read both, but you might start with CodeBlueBlog's entertaining account of what I'd like to call the "dioxin affair."

Although the points made by both docs differ, they are in fact not conflicting scientifically. I agree with Medpundit's account of the symptoms, but CodeBlueblog's entertaining account is also scientifically sound but with the additional caveat that it's so damned entertaining that you want to chose sides. Go read both articles, CodeBlueBlog's(Dr. Bolan-she or he, not sure which) and then Medpundit's.(Dr. Sidney Smith - not real name). Which doc do I agree with? Both! But I have to say that CodeBlueBlog's argument is very compelling.
