The death toll keeps climbing and I continue to update the projections. But if one tallies up the projections coming in from all the various areas effected by the tsunami - the final toll could exceed one million lives.

From Reuters via Yahoo 1HR 28 minutes ago:
GENEVA (Reuters) - Up to five million people have been left without basic essentials by the Indian Ocean tsunami, lacking either water or food or basic sanitation, a senior U.N. official said on Wednesday.

(...)  "Perhaps as many as five million people are not able to access what they need for living. Either they cannot get water, or their sanitation is inadequate or they cannot get food," David Nabarro, who heads the World Health Organization (news - web sites)'s health crisis team, told Reuters.
