On "Portable Hospitals In A Time Of War"

Topics: Middle East News and Perspectives

Parallel Universes, a medblog, has a post today on "Portable Hospitals In A Time OF War." New England Journal of Medicine that has an excellent photo essay on how American doctors care for the wounded in Iraq. He suggests that we check it out. He accurately suggests that it isn't for viewing by those with weak stomachs.

(From Parallel Universes) Click this link for an overview of the photos.

Parallel Universes said it first and there is no better way of saying it - "Seeing these images made me amazed at how efficient and how advanced American doctors are taking care of wounded American soldiers in Iraq."

His final comment I also like
- "Sure, many might still say it's a war that should have began in the first place, but that is the past. We are in the present, so deal with it."

No one wants their loved one to be wounded in battle, but they need to know that their loved ones will be getting the most advanced battlefield care available and our country has done a very good job of just that. The juxtaposition of having some of the most dedicated and experienced docs in the business and the best medical equipment that is available for the battlefield makes for many lives saved that would have otherwise been lost.

One of the biggest factors in the number of lives saved from combat wound
s is the response time required to get our guys triaged and where they need to be ASAP. We've come a long way since Vietnam in having the best combination of three of the most important issues in that we have significantly improved our battlefield medical equipment and facilities, trained doctors. and response time.
