Former President Carter On Arafat, "A Powerful Human Symbol"

One can always count on former President Jimmy Carter to get it wrong. From the man that some would say whose administration exemplified American weakness and encouraged the growth of terrorism by making the United States appear as a 'paper tiger' comes this glowing praise of the godfather of world-wide terrorism.

The Palestinian News Service (WAFA) is reporting that "former American President Jimmy Carter said Thursday that Arafat was a "powerful human symbol and forceful advocate, who united Palestinians in their pursuit of a homeland."

"In a press release, Carter said that Arafat was the father of the modern Palestinian nationalist movement. Yasser Arafat's death marks the end of an era and will no doubt be painfully felt by Palestinians throughout the Middle East and elsewhere in the world" he added."

"Carter hoped  that an emerging Palestinian Leadership can benefit from Arafat's experiences, be welcomed to the peace process by Prime Minister Sharon and President Bush, and be successful in helping to forge a Palestinian state living in harmony with their Israeli neighbours."

The entire world can only hope as President Carter does that somehow the Palestinians who have never been able to do anything collectively peaceful as a 'want-a-be' nation will now stop blowing up women, children, and old people in Israel. President Carter continues to place the responsibility on the wrong people. It's time for the Palestinians to "BE peaceful" and then, and only then, can President Bush and Prime Minister Sharon have someone to forge a harmonious Palestinian State with! Let us not forget that it was Arafat that "had it all in the palm of his hand" at Oslo, then turned his back on peace to embrace terrorism more strongly than before. Let us not forget that it was Arafat who helped to foster the cancer of fundamentalist Islam that the world is at war with now.
