Arab Media And The Shooting Of The Fallujah Mosque

Topics: Middle East News and Perspectives

Athena, a blogger in Jordan, has 'on the ground' views of Arab media press reports.

Athena writes:

After reading the Rantingprof's post, "The Shooting of the Unarmed Enemy" I decided to flip through the news channels here and see how they are spinning the story. Afterall,  I'm supposed to be doing this sort of research, and I think this incident will be an added addition to my argument concerning the Arab media's role in garnering support for terrorist acts.

I started out at Al-Alam (The World), which is the new Iraqi News station.  It's headlines were, "US Marine Kills Wounded and Unarmed Iraqi Prisoner in a Falluja Mosque." This was beside the announcement that the Dems favored Hillary Clinton in 2008 and the news that HAMAS plans to boycott a Palestinian election.   I'm not sure if boycott is the correct term.  It will probably be more similar to a bloodbath.  Also was, "US Hawk Condi Rice nominated to replace Colin Powell as Secretary of State."  Not far from the way the Associated Press chose to word it with "Bush names Hawkish Rice top US diplomat."

I started to flip and I have to mention when I passed "Al Fajr." It's not really a news station, there are many stations with just Quranic scriptures being sung.  This one really stands out because it was a women completely clad in black except her eyes (she was wearing eyeglasses, which really looks funny if you think about it) reciting the Quran. Keep Reading...

There is nothing more we can add to Athena's excellent report on the Arab media, we aren't there, but she is! Be sure to read all Athena has to say on the matter of Arab media, her insights are good, her research is good, and she is able to maintain a decent perspective through all of her experience in a distant land that is not always so friendly to her beliefs.
